Celebrating Sankranti and Army Day

It was Sankranti yesterday, its army day today. What do these two events have in common? Well it seems as if both the events are totally unrelated. But if we try to have a closer look try to look beyond the obvious Line Of Control (LOC) we might find, what we are looking for. Makar Sankranti marks the entry of life giver SUN into the northern hemisphere, same is also known as Uttrayan or Pongal or Lohri or Bihu, in other parts of our country. But this is not just a Latitudinal migration  it signifies an event wherein the Sun-God seems to remind their children that 'Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya'- may you go higher & higher, to more & more Light and never to Darkness.
Sankranti stands for brightness, Sankranti stands for beginning of light, Sankranti stands for the time when day starts getting longer and thus making our lives more and better. Sankranti marks the beginning of the time when our ultimate Father (the life giver SUN) decides to be with us for long and for good.
Makar Sankranti signifies that we should turn away from the darkness of delusion in which we live, and begin to enjoy a new life with bright light within us to shine brighter and brighter. We should gradually begin to grow in purity, wisdom, and knowledge, even as the Sun does from the Day of Makar Sankranti.
And today our Indian Army is celebrating Army Day. A day to pay homage to the valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country. We pay our reverence at the Amar Jawan Jyoti for the martyred soldiers. But why am I celebrating this day when our neighbor country decides to brutally massacre my two soldiers. Why am I celebrating when my so-called-friend Pakistan decides to carry the head of my soldier as a Trophy. Why am I celebrating when everyone from Army Chief Bikram Singh to Opposition Leader Sushma Swaraj To the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are busy in lip worship. Do I really have the freedom I am celebrating? Should I pay homage on this Army Day when my soldiers are being killed for no reason?
Let’s go back to the first word I said. How is Makar Sankranti related with the army ADay? YES it is, in all senses and by all means. Our Army needs to rise now, our senses need to rise, and our morality needs to take shape. So where sun is guiding a new path, we need to tread ahead. We all should take a pledge this Sankranti that “Enough is enough, I will no longer remain quiet”.
This should be the significance and Celebration of Army Day
